PAHurling.com Allentown Hibernians Hurling Club

AHHC will be coordinating the 2011 Lehigh Valley Irish Sports League. Games will be held on Thursday nights at Klines Lane Field, Emmaus, beginning April 28th. The league will be comprised of four Hurling teams, each sponsored by a local pub. New players to the game of Hurling are welcomed and encouraged. Instruction and skills/rules will be reviewed and equipment will be provided for game days. Games will begin at 6:15 PM and 7:15 PM. Teams will be selected prior to start of season. Register no later than April 9th for initial team selection/draw. Players registering after that date will be added to one of the four teams to equalize number of players on each team. Registration fee of $40 includes use of equipment during games (helmets, hurleys, sliothars) and team jersey. Update!
The Hibs beat the Philly Shamrocks in the best of 3 series for the Philadelphia division cup. That win took us to the nationals at Gaelic Park in Chicago where we beat Indianapolis in the quarter finals but lost a hard fought game to St. Louis in the Semis.

Celticfest!
We’ll be at Celticfest 9/24 through 9/26. The Hibs will put on a demo of Hurling Friday night around 4-5 and then we’ll have a booth near the highland field for the rest of the weekend. Stop by!

The Allentown Hibernians Hurling Club hosted a youth event at Haines Mill Field as part of Sportsfest. Dozens of minor Irish Football players and Hurlers attended. Youth from the Philadelphia Shamrocks, Delaware County Gaels and others participated.

The afternoon concluded with a Junior C hurling match between the Philadelphia Shamrocks and the Allentown Hibernians. The game was the first of the championship series to determine who will represent the Philadelphia Division at the North American County Board Championships. Allentown emerged victorious although each side put out a full effort.

A squad from the Baltimore Bohemians Hurling club travelled to Allentown on 26 June. Due to conflicts with other Gaelic Sports and the World Cup only 5 members made the trip. Six Hibernians were tapped out to play alongside them against 11 men in green. The home team performed well and a great effort was put out by all on the pitch. The full time match on the open pitch provided lots of passing and a good stretch of the legs. More recently on 10 July the Hibernians travelled to our Nation’s Capital to take on the DC Gaels. Playing against a Junior A side, with many Irish born players, pushed the Hibernians to the limits of their skills. The DC Gaels won the match with their great point scoring abilities from all parts of the field. The game was a positive experience for the Hibs and will only help them to improve and become more determined in their effort. The DC Gaels then invited members of the team to a social at a DC pub where all had a great time.

Battling high temperatures and a determined Shamrock team, the Hibernians pulled off another win. The game was held up due to thunderstorms with seven minutes to play. Only up by two points at that time nothing was certain. However when play resumed two additional points were put over the bar and time ran out.

The Allentown Hibernians won the opening game of a three game series with Division rivals the Philadelphia Shamrocks. The final score was 4-11 to 0-1. Allentown scored early and kept up constant pressure on the Shamrock defense. When the ball crossed into Hibernian territory the mid fielders and backs made quick work of getting it cleared back up field. The entire line up was used getting valuable game experience for some of the new members.

Tuesday and Thursday Training to Start Later
Training will be held at 6:30PM now that there is more daylight. Tuesday and Thursday sessions will be held at klines Lane Field in Emmaus.

Past members who are not planning on playing are encouraged to return uniforms and equipment to the team for this years season.
